Checkers was another of those early games released with full color documentation.

CheckersGraphics: 2
Sound: 2
Replay Value: 2
Notes: 1- or 2-player game; one of the few early releases with a computer opponent.
Screen Shots

This game enforces the official Checkers rules (you must jump if you can) which has proven that I am terrible at Checkers! The sound used for the computer's "thinking" is neat, but c'mon, it's Checkers. Not like we have a very exciting video game here.

ROM It is rumored that a ROM variant (sound effects) exists.
Box So far, seven variations have been found.
Manual Nine variants have been identified.
Overlays Two different overlay variations are known to exist.
Label To date, two labels have been recorded.
Easter Eggs No Easter Eggs have been found.

A total of seven Checkers box variants have been documented.

Ostensibly, two versions of the ROM exist. Different "buzz" sound effects are used. In one, the original, well-worn long, loud razz, and on some others, a shorter, more pleasant razz. I have only experienced the shorter razz in the version of Checkers included with Triple Challenge. Of the many copies I've tested (at least six), all have the traditional buzz for wrong moves.

A total of nine Checkers manual variants have been documented.

Title Screen Title screen for Checkers.
Game Board Yup, it's a checkers board. Could have given it at least some personality, like a border around the board.
